Reorganizing is part of daily life in any asset library. Here is how to move and copy things in Assets, and the one thing to be careful about.
Moving or copying files and Collections
- Select the files or Collections.
- Right-click one of them and choose Move or Copy. You can also open the Action menu (the three dots) in the toolbar and choose it there.
- Choose the destination.
- Click Move or Copy.
Shortcuts: press M to move and C to copy.
Moving or copying a folder
- Select the folder in the Folder browser.
- Right-click it and choose Move or Copy, or hover over the name and use the Action menu (the downward arrow).
- Choose the destination and confirm.
Limits
- Up to 1000 files can be selected at a time.
- Only one folder can be selected at a time.
- You need permission to move content out of the source folder and into the destination folder.
Be careful: you cannot stop it
Once a move or copy has started, you cannot stop it from within Assets. Check how many files are involved before you click, especially with folders, which can contain thousands of files. If you start something by mistake, tell your administrator straight away. An administrator can cancel a running move or copy in recent versions, but files that were already processed must be put back by hand.
