Narrowing down results with the Filter

How to use the Filter panel to narrow search results by file type, tag, status and other metadata.

The Filter helps you get from a long list of results to the few files you need.

What you can filter on

The Filter lists metadata fields such as file type, tag and status. Depending on the field, you narrow the results in one of these ways:

  • Typing some text and pressing Enter
  • Selecting or clearing a check box
  • Choosing an option from a list
  • Clicking a tag
  • Choosing a value from a list of predefined terms (called a taxonomy)

Clearing the Filter

Click Clear next to a field to reset that field, or click Clear All to reset every field.

By default the Filter is reset when you start a new search. To keep your Filter settings while you use the search box or the Folder browser, select Keep settings.

Choose which fields you see

Assets has more than 400 metadata fields, and you will only need a few. Click the Configure Metadata icon in the top right corner of the Filter panel to choose the fields that matter to you.

Combining the methods

The search box, the Folder browser and the Filter work together. For example:

  1. Type architecture in the search box.
  2. Select the Images folder.
  3. Filter the results to show only landscape images.
