Browsing the folder structure

Use the Folder browser to look in one place only, and choose whether subfolders and Collections are included.

When you know where a file is stored, the Folder browser is the fastest way to it.

Showing and hiding the Folder browser

Click the Folder browser icon to show or hide it. Select a folder and the results show the files stored in it. If you have also typed a search term or set a Filter, the results take these into account.

When the Folder browser is closed, the name of the selected folder is shown next to the icon, so you always know where you are searching. To go back to the top level, click the x next to the folder name.

Including or excluding subfolders

By default a search includes all subfolders and Collections. To change this, open the Action menu in the toolbar and choose one of the options:

  • Folder only
  • Folders and subfolders
  • Folders, subfolders and Collections
  • Folders, subfolders, Collections and subcollections

The icon of the menu shows which option is active, even when the menu is collapsed. Older versions of Assets offer a shorter list of options.

More space for folders

Drag the divider at the bottom of the Folder browser up or down to give the folder list more or less room.

A note on automatic folders

When you upload files to a folder at the highest level, Assets stores them in a subfolder called Auto organized, which is divided further by year and by date. Choose a more specific folder if you want a tidier structure.
