Assets Agent

What Assets Agent does, when you need it, and the server requirements to know about in a trial.

Assets Agent is a small application that runs on your computer. It is the link between Assets in your browser and the applications on your computer, such as Photoshop or Word.

What it does for you

With Assets Agent running, checking out a file automatically opens it in its application, and the edited file can be checked in with a single click. Without it, you can still check out files, but you have to use Replace to put them back.

Do you need it?

Most of the work in Assets, such as searching, uploading, sharing and previewing, needs no installation. Assets Agent is only for check-out and check-in. It is especially useful if you edit files often, or work remotely.

Installing it

  1. In Assets, open the Avatar menu and choose Install clients.
  2. Download the installer for your operating system.
  3. Run the installer.
  4. Start Assets Agent. On Windows it starts automatically. On macOS you start it yourself. Its icon appears in the notification area on Windows and in the menu bar on a Mac.

An icon next to the Checked-out files button in Assets shows whether Assets is connected to Assets Agent. If it is running but not connected, click the icon to try again.

You can change the folder where checked-out files are stored from the Assets Agent menu.
